Most young girls, at some point in their lives, have received a porcelain doll as a gift from a family member. Some display the doll, but never really think about getting another. Others look at this doll as the first of many. They start doll collecting, and their collection grows over the years. Some girls loose interest as they get older, but some women continue to collect dolls well into the last years of their lives. Sometimes these doll collections are passed down through generations, and they remain in the family for years and years. Other times, they are sold to settle estates. Dolls differ in value based on a number of factors. How many of the dolls were made? How old is the doll? What condition is the doll in? An old doll that is numbered and in mint condition can bring in a lot of cash at an estate sale or an auction. When a collection contains quite a few dolls of this sort, doll collecting can really pay off.
