I recently accepted my electric companies offer to come to my home and see how I was doing when it came to my electric usage, where (if any) air and heat might be leaking from, and to check my filters and the appliances that I used, etc. I was very surprised to learn that I could reduce my electric and water bill significantly each year if I were to switch to an energy star appliance. My appliance electric usage was pretty high when they added in my inefficient washing machine and dishwasher. It made me stop and think, I can save $230 a year, that will pay for itself in five years, not to bad.
